I have completed my update to R2 from I had 12 servers to migrate to new R2 servers. This issue randomly happened on about half of my new servers once I promoted them to DC's. I went through every process I knew to try and nothing seemed to work. Every server was still able to reach any website. And it did not affect any of my site to site replications. On a whim, I pulled up a prompt and ping I have really no explanation why but the "no internet access" and yellow triangle instantly went away.
I repeated this on the remaining servers with the issue and it instantly removed the warning. If anyone has an explanation I would love to hear it. Just done this on my W2K8R2 server, only thin I can add is we are on a cisco catalyst switch. In my case, the server was virtual and had been moved to a different host.
Once it accepted the IP and was able to access the internet, I was able to remove the reservation with no problem.
Because I'm glad to have a solution but have no idea why it works and why it was ever a problem to begin with. Why would setting a static IP ever result in Windows showing you have no internet as long as the settings are correct? Is NLA doing some hoodoo to determine internet connectivity?
For several years, since info posted about local machine dns cache poisoning as malware vector, I have kept the local dns caching service turned off on domain machines I was connected remotely, and the connection did not seem to actually drop, don't think any users noticed anything. I've seen that cause issues too Also, is by some chance this box checked?? Thanks, A. Connect and share knowledge within a single location that is structured and easy to search.
We had an internet outage and when the ISP resolved the problem, we ended up with a server that no longer has internet access unless we use DHCP. I replaced the network card, thinking it might resolve the problem, but still no internet access. We have a domain, but I don't think that matters. I can see the machine on the network and remote to it, but the machine cannot access the internet.
I don't think there is a conflict on the network, but is there anything else that can cause this problem? Would seem right based on your verbiage. Sounds like you need to make sure that the LAN settings on the router are correct and on the same subnet as the static IP of the server.
Also make sure that DNS is resolving correctly by pinging 8. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top. After a recovery from a crash server is working for four days, noticed today in troubleshooting a different issue, we were unable to ping the server or connect via RDP. Logged into the server using the Vsphere Client, and Windows is not activated, and network access is in yellow.
Reboot the Server and Windows is now genuine, but am still seeing no network access. I then created a new identical adapter in VSphere EE again, and gave it the static settings, but it would not connect. I have tried the registry DefaultGateway empty fix , it was empty but deleting it, and rebooting did not work, and editing it did not work.
Have attempted editing it multiple times in the GUI, and tried setting it manually via netsh as well. I also attempted creating a new install on a new vhd in vmware, and it also had the issue with. At this point I think the issue is either in VMWare 6. I'm going to work with my network engineer, to see if we can troubleshoot the firewall today. One of them will have the held onto ip settings, change the adapter to dhcp, and then change the semi-working adapter to the static ip address and I was back in business.
I don't know if you will see this but I finally figured it out. There's a couple of things that were holding me back despite doing all the standard stuff. First, go onto your router This will show some details. If the network shows public this explains a lot of problems with static IP addresses. Apply those settings then close it.
