Internet explorer cannot connect to internet windows vista

I have already verified that no AV or Spyware programs are running and also have Windows Defender and firewall turned off. I can ping the Internet router, and even better, I can ping Google and get a reply and to top it all off I am remotely connected to this PC via logmein. If you open a browser any browser you cant connect to the Internet and even if I try to connect to Google's IP I can't..

It seems to be crapping out on any attemps to access an IP except through ping commands. In the connections settings of IE - make sure "Automatically Detect connection" is checked. That took care of my issue! Nsoft Solutions is an IT service provider. I'd try wesil 's advice first, it would be the most logical and easiest to get your firend up and running quickly.

Kimberlin's suggestion is a local machine settings - you say other accounts work so probably not this although maybe worth a try. Finally the IE settings - you said you'd tried other browsers as well?

I know it's far fetch, but changing the dns settings takes two secs. It won't let me diagnose anything if the computer thinks there is a connection. I don't want her to have to take it in somewhere to pay money and find out it is a simple setting that reconfigured when the computer crashed.

I must say, I have a lot of respect for the people that work on and maintain windows machines everyday, these things are a pain to even figure out what is wrong, let alone fix a problem.

Networkingisapain in vista. So staicaly placing the ip add and dns servers seemed to do the trick. Your firmware upgrade might accept these protocols and avoid the issues with vista not accepting the dhcp packets request. You could leave it this way it will work just fine. But once i got online i then i found the firmware upgrade for my Linksys router downloaded it and then installed it and then went back to put all nics wireless and wired back to full DHCP and everything is running fine In reply to Networkingisapain in vista's post on November 6, My vista machine woke up one day from hibernation and decided it could no longer identify my wired network.

I've tried a number of other fixes, including modifying my registry, and they do not work. How can I get in to see the DNS servers I'm hooked up to a Motorola don't know exactly what model, I'm not home at the moment to look cable modem?

Will I have to borrow someone else's computer and hook it up to see this? I've tried everything in this thread and am still having this issue. I am going to try and back out SP2 and see what happens. What do you all think? Thank you very much.. I'm afraid the Vista SP2 machine you recently received has just about reached its end of life extended support for Vista SP2 and IE9 ended on Apr and you might want to seriously consider whether it's worth your time trying to get this machine up and running again.

In the mean time, open your IE9 browser, go to Help About Internet Explorer and let us know the Update Versions of this browser, since the KB number should give us a good idea of the last time Windows Update ran to completion on your computer. Can you also confirm that you are using the latest Firefox ESR v Was this reply helpful?

Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. I installed Firefox to see if it was IE, it is not, they both exhibit the same issue. Also I can see all the other computers on the network. When I ping google. Any suggestions would be appreciated, it seems like something simple. Dazed and confused. Thursday, January 3, AM. Hi, Thank you for the post. Monday, January 7, AM. I had the same set of problems as the OP. The messages I received in the browser were along the lines of "This website cannot be displayed" and when I did the network diagnostic it said everything was fine, no problems detected. After trying everything suggested to fix the problem, I came up with the following interesting results: 1 safe mode with networking worked 2 after repairing the system, something could not be repaired and internet browsing still didn't work 3 I performed a system restore for several weeks prior to the issue happening, and that fixed the problem 4 After testing, I decided the next thing to do would be to run all updates in Windows Update for the computer, I did so 5 After installing the updates, internet browsing no longer functioned.

So, after all of that, I find that one of the updates has to be the culprit in killing the machine's ability to browse the internet. I really hate that it is likely one of Microsoft's own updates that killed this computer's ability to browse the internet. Specs: AMD Athlon 64 x2 1. Wednesday, March 5, PM. Wednesday, March 12, AM. Same issue with HPDV laptop I would rather not do a recovery from back disks.

Microsoft lets fix this problem immediately Tuesday, March 18, PM. Same issue here on a vaio pc been happening for a while. Monday, March 24, AM.
